O'Connell, CFT highlight budget cuts' impact on summer school

CFT vice-president Dean Murakami joined Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell and other leaders in the education community on July 9 in Sacramento at McClatchy High School to draw attention to the impact of state budget cuts on summer school programs. Murakami noted that the governor's budget proposal will result in layoffs and ruined educational opportunities for California's students, and suggested reinstating progressive tax increases on the wealthy and closing corporate tax loopholes to balance the budget and make sure that every student has an opportunity to learn.
