Morgan Hill teachers take contract campaign to YouTube |

November, 2008—For the three years of Superintendent Alan Nishino’s tenure, teachers in the Morgan Hill Unified School District have been systemically removed from consultation regarding what they know best—curriculum, textbooks and educational objectives. The administration has refused to negotiate with the teachers' union, the Morgan Hill Federation of Teachers, more than once a month. Class sizes have grown and union activists have been transferred punitively.
In addition to pursuing its legal remedies, the union has mounted an innovative YouTube campaign to inform the community and compel the school board to take action. Videos of public comments by teachers at the November 18, 2008 school board meeting, where nearly 150 teachers protested, have been posted on YouTube.
Watch first grade teacher Teresa Colbert tell the Board: “I am the union. When the union speaks, it speaks for all of us.” Each viewing click lets the district know that the story is getting out. Help your union brothers and sisters while you are wowed by MHFT members.
