The CFT’s Early
Childhood/TK-12 Council is sponsoring an Educational
Issues Conference at the Sacramento CFT Office (1225 H St.,
Sacramento, CA 95814), February 21st – 22nd.
In order to encourage locals’ participation with this
conference, the first fifteen (15) locals to register at
least one member for the Educational Issues Conference Part 1 or
Part 2 shall receive a $200 subsidy upon attending a complete
workshop (no late arrivals/early departures) by
submitting $200 of documented conference expenses on a CFT
reimbursement form that will be provided at the end of the cohort
sessions.
Lunch will be provided on Friday. Breakfast and lunch will be
provided on Saturday.
Schedule
Friday, February 21st
12 pm Conference begins and session concludes at
5 pm.
Saturday, February 22nd
8:30 am Session begins and adjourns at 3:30 pm.
Workshops
Literacy Instruction for Grades 6 through 12 Educators
This engaging session will focus on the research and
exemplary practices that help students acquire strong reading
comprehension skills, and integrate writing across the content
areas. In addition, participants will walk away with
readily applicable strategies and resources to partner with
parents and promote literacy at home.

Co-teaching Students with Disabilities in the Mainstream
This professional development session focuses on effective
co-teaching and is designed for general education and special
education teachers working together to support diverse learners.
The course provides practical strategies for effective
co-teaching partnerships, emphasizing collaborative planning, and
differentiated instruction. Participants explore various
co-teaching models, including team teaching, parallel teaching,
and station teaching, to meet the needs of students requiring
specialized instruction through interactive activities and
real-world examples. Teachers gain tools to foster equity,
improve student outcomes, and create a positive and effective
learning environment.

Early Childhood Education Strategies
Day One: Neuroscience is clear that foundations for
prosocial positive outcomes in life need to be built in the
pre-school years when the brain is optimally sensitive and
behaviors and attitudes are modifiable. Join representatives from
the AFT and Think Equal, an innovative global initiative
dedicated to early childhood education through social and
emotional learning (SEL) for a peek into a groundbreaking
curriculum designed to cultivate empathy, equality, and emotional
intelligence in children, laying the foundation for inclusive,
just, and peaceful societies.
Day Two: Co-regulation can be defined as the supportive
process between caring adults and children, youth or young adults
that fosters self-regulation and promotes well-being. This highly
engaging session exemplifies research-based, developmentally
appropriate strategies for creating warm, caring environments,
de-escalating behavior, partnering with parents, and attending to
our own social-emotional well-being.
