Early Childhood/TK-12 Council
The voice of classroom teachers in California
The EC/TK-12 Council ensures that early childhood educators and TK-12 teachers have a voice within CFT, in the California Legislature, at the State Board of Education, the Commission on Teacher Credentialing, and other venues where education policy is developed. The Council is a fierce advocate for teachers having the necessary tools to do their jobs and for California students to have access to the highest quality education.
Council of Classified Employees
Supporting the staff who make our campuses work
The Council of Classified Employees is the division of CFT that advocates for support staff members in classifications such as bus drivers, secretaries and office workers, paraprofessionals and teaching assistants, custodians and maintenance workers, food service workers, and other non-certificated employees working in early childhood centers, schools, and on college campuses throughout California.
Community College Council
Supporting the rights of full-time and part-time faculty
The Community College Council supports and defends the workplace rights of full- and part-time faculty working in the California Community Colleges, through effective legislative and advocacy efforts. The Council comprises representatives from the community college AFT locals in the state.
Universities Council
Negotiating statewide contracts for librarians and lecturers
The Universities Council represents non-Senate faculty and librarians working in classrooms, libraries, education programs and professional schools on all 10 UC campuses at the University of California. Universities Council negotiates statewide contracts for its members, unique among the divisions of CFT.
Council of Retired Members
Supporting retirees as a vital force in the union
The power of organized retirees is not to be underestimated and the Council of Retired Members knows that. With the formation of the council in 2014, retirees have a greater voice than ever in our state federation. The council advocates for retirees, monitors issues of import to retirees, and makes policy recommendations to CFT governance bodies concerning retirement issues. It also assists local unions in organizing new retiree chapters.
