More than 12,000 members were able to join one of the two CFT Tele-Townhall meetings held on March 18. Combined, the meetings were the largest gathering of CFT members ever.
You can listen to the CFT Tele-Townhall here! (The recording starts at the 12-second mark.)
On the calls we received encouraging words from State Superintendent of Instruction Tony Thurmond, who offered his support and thanked CFT members. He also discussed the many efforts the governor’s office and the Department of Education are taking to support our schools.
CFT leaders discussed our union’s work to advocate for members and students during this crisis — from local efforts to the CFT’s statewide work and national work of AFT in Washington, D.C.
Equally important, we fielded calls from CFT members, hearing the very real concerns you have about your jobs, your students, and your safety. While we were able to answer a handful of those questions, hundreds more members had questions to ask. Many of the answers to these questions can be found in our COVID-19 Union Toolkit. And, based on your questions, we are in the process of putting together a helpful FAQ.
If you have additional questions to ask, please start by contacting your local union. The answers to many of your questions vary between employers, so your local union leaders and representatives will be able to provide the most current and accurate information about your specific workplace.
