More than 100 CFT leaders met October 5th in Orange County as delegates to CFT’s State Council.
In addition to getting important updates from CFT leaders and staff, delegates passed resolutions that impact all divisions of CFT membership as well as our school communities.
They debated, discussed, and voted on a number of resolutions including numerous social and racial justice matters as well resolutions that examine education issues related to funding and curriculum.
This State Council met exactly one month before the November General Election so the focus on electoral politics was expected and welcomed.
Members followed Michelle Obama’s DNC advice to “do something!” by writing more than 300 letters to Working America voters in Arizona.
Members cheered as 45th congressional district candidate Derek Tran stood up on stage.
As one of six targeted congressional races in California, Tran’s race in Orange County is critically important, and he highlighted the need to focus on bread and butter issues that matter to voters, specifically educators and school staff, as we work to take back the house.
Tran said if elected he will be a loud voice in congress in the need for secure full funding for school and colleges, freedom from gun violence on our campuses, and an ongoing commitment to student debt relief.
October’s State Council was once again an opportunity for CFT delegates to come together to advance the work of our union, and we look forward to doing so again at CFT Convention in March 2025.
