A Passion for Teaching from the Start

Dr. Villaver’s love for teaching began in childhood, playing “teacher” with his younger sister. His commitment to academic excellence earned him a scholarship, allowing him to pursue a degree in Secondary Education. By the age of 20, he had begun his teaching career, determined to support his family and make a difference in the lives of students.

Despite financial challenges, he became the first professional teacher in his family, passing the Philippine Licensure Examination for Teachers on his first attempt in 2015. He initially taught at a private school before transitioning to a public high school in 2017, where he discovered his true calling—special education. Working with students with hearing, vision, and learning disabilities ignited a deep passion, leading him to earn a Master’s Degree in Special Education in 2018 while juggling multiple jobs. One of his significant achievements while working in the United States was being able to financially support his doctorate degree. Despite balancing multiple responsibilities as a classroom teacher, department chair, after-school program instructor, and badminton coach, he successfully pursued and earned his Doctorate degree in 2024.

Adapting to a new country and education system, Dr. Villaver quickly established himself as a special education department chair at Terra Nova High School. Teaching in hybrid settings during the pandemic posed significant challenges, yet his innovative approach ensured students continued to receive quality education and support. Over time, he played a crucial role in strengthening collaboration between special education and general education teachers, fostering a culture of inclusivity and teamwork.
